When you first arrive at the centre we will ask you to complete a registration form so that we have all your correct details.  You will then be introduced to the Osteopath providing your care, and they will escort you to a treatment room where you will be asked  to tell us the full story about the problem you are seeking help for.
It is very important for us to take a comprehensive case history, so you will be asked about your past medical history, general health and lifestyle too.  You will then examined by the osteopath.  It may be necessary to remove some clothing at this point – many patients bring shorts to change in to or wear loose clothes – but your comfort is our aim at all times.  You are welcome to bring a chaperone along, and parents of children attending for treatment will be required to be present at all times during the examination and treatment.

It is usual that the osteopath will look at you standing and sitting.  You may be asked to perform some active movements within a pain free range.  Osteopaths use their hands to detect abnormal structures, tissues and to assess passive movements of joints.

It may be necessary to perform medical tests such as blood pressure reading and neurological testing.

Following your examination the osteopath will diagnose the problem, inform you of his/her findings and discuss whether osteopathic treatment is appropriate for you.  If treatment is indicated you will be informed of the various treatment approaches we can offer, their benefits and side effects, so that you can make an informed decision on the kind of treatment that would help you.

We allow 45 minutes for your first visit which enables us to give a full treatment following your examination whilst follow up treatments last about 30 minutes and might involve some parts of  examination to assess your progress.
